Updates from Steph - Oct 2025
Hey friends! Long time no talk - how have you been? Please reply and send me a little note with your most recent adventures / releases / exciting projects. I would love to hear from you!
As for me, I've been on a healing journey. To make a long story short, back in November 2020, I suffered a birthing injury while delivering my son, resulting in some torn tissue in my hip. This led to severe back, leg, and pelvis troubles, and by May 2023, I could barely walk without intense pain. You can read about the entire ordeal on my Facebook and Instagram, if you're interested in all the gruesome details (please follow me if you don't already! I'm only private to weed out spam and sales bots).
An injury like this strips a person down to the studs, so to speak. Before and after my surgery, I was, quite simply, in survival mode. I heard a quote that got me through this incredibly difficult time -
"When you have your health, you have a million goals. When you don't, you have one goal."
This truly applied to me. From mid-2023 to early-2025, I had one goal - to get my mobility back.
Aside from healing my tissue, attending physical therapy, and tending to my family, everything else fell away. I left my full-time job at Madison House, unable to live up to the expectations set for me. I stopped recording podcast episodes. I distanced myself from friends and colleagues, unwilling to share my dismal emotional state with the people I cared about. I kept doing taxes, but my client list was small. I haven't taught a class since the end of 2022, and haven't attended or spoken at any conferences or workshops.
I just didn't have the bandwidth to do anything except heal.
At the time, this felt like a MAJOR identity crisis. If I'm not Steph Belcher, Music Industry Business Manager and Educator (and athlete on the side), who the hell am I?!
The side of myself that worked closely with people on their music and their businesses went through a deep, impactful mourning period. I have missed working with you all, from my very core.
But, now that I'm on the other side of this injury and fully healed, I am able to look back on this time with a sort of "Phoenix-rising-from-the-ashes" fondness.
Yes, I had to put down everything that meant something to me. Yes, I had to redefine myself from the ground up. Yes, I had to skip important conferences and workshops and delay my career growth. Yes, I felt physical and emotional pain that I wouldn't wish upon anyone.
But you know what? I made it through. I lived to tell about it. And dare I say, I came out of it as a better version of myself.
I'm infinitely more patient with myself, my friends, and my family. I'm more focused and aligned on my work goals than ever before. I have a deeper understanding of the type of pain that debilitates people, and how to help them through it. I'm extremely grateful for the things I have - my wonderful husband, pain-free mobility, my caring friends, my adorable children, talented and brilliant clients, and all the opportunities that lie ahead of me.
All this is to say, I'm back, baby.
I'm creating a few new things, and I'd love to keep you in the loop.
